HAPPY NEW YEAR! Resolutions 'Are A Crappy Idea' ... Make Mistakes, Then Get Up And Keep Moving December 31, 2015  By Hugh KlitzkeCasting Director and Coach When people get it right, you just get out of their way. Warren Ellis’ and Neil Gaiman’s work have meant a lot to me for a very long time. I’ve let Warren’s Christmas greeting from more than a decade ago sign off for me for many years. Below is his sign off for 2015. The second piece is by Neil Gaiman. He’s indomitable. "New Year's Resolutions are a crappy idea. Just try and make things a little bit better for yourself, step by step, year by year. It's all incremental. Lots of small victories is better than one big one. No single victory changes everything. Lots of little ones change a whole spread of things. I'll be raising a drink to you on the first of the month. See you a couple of days later. Luck and love to you all. "I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something. So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life. Whatever it is you’re scared of doing; Do it. Make your mistakes, next year and forever.”Remember - forward motion is not a straight line. When you stumble, don’t be afraid to get up and keep going. And if you find that you can’t pick yourself up, look around; because there’s someone willing to help. How do I know? Because everyone falls and no one does it all alone; never has and never will.
